WWII vets relive the mounted cavalry

FORT HOOD, Texas - Former Pfc. James Hufnal, 88, assistant farrier and communications lineman with Headquarters, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division from 1940 to 1945, and former Staff Sgt. Weldon Hoyle, 89, also of Headquarters, 1st Bde., 1st Cav. Div., sit atop horses with members of the 1st Cav. Div. Horse Detachment here June 10. Hufnal, a Houston native, and Hoyle, a native of Olathe, Kan., went through basic training together, came to the division together and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II together. Hufnal and Hoyle were two of the last members of the mounted cavalry units in the division.
