Today as our Soldiers and leaders continue to perform magnificently at home and abroad, we celebrate 236 years of our remarkable U.S. Army history. Since the American Revolutionary War, the U.S. Army has served as watchful guardian over our Nation and its allies, and has been a critical cornerstone to our freedom. This Army is an American Profession of Arms, a vocation comprised of experts certified in the ethical application of land combat power, serving under civilian authority, entrusted to defend the Constitution and the rights and interests of the American people.
At no time throughout our history has this profession been more important than today. And after more than three decades of service, I can state with certainty that the strength of our Army and our professional Soldiers come from the trust and resilience of the American people. In my experiences leading great Americans in combat, it is clear their spirit remains strong. Our Soldiers, their families, and Army civilians possess a durable strength that inspires and encourages me. And now as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, I know that this same spirit is passed to our troops as they work and train in our schools and centers of excellence. Today and every day, I am incredibly proud, humbled, and ever thankful to all those who gave so much in service to our Army and our Nation; so it is with these many heroes in mind that I wish our Army a very Happy 236th Birthday.
Victory starts here!
