Interns Morgan McCorkle and Tiffany Hays, participating in a financial fellowship with Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Army Community Service, taught a two-day personal financial readiness seminar May 24 and May 31, at the Combined Operations Facility, Bldg. 417 on Fort Myer.

Twenty-eight Soldiers, noncommissioned officers and officers from Headquarters Command Battalion companies, utilized the workshop to learn or enhance what they already knew about personal finance. “ACS conducts personal financial readiness classes for free, which are a great training tool for companies or any organization,” said Lt. Col. Cameron A. Leiker, commander of Headquarters Command Battalion. Leiker encouraged other servicemembers to take advantage of the financial readiness information offered at no charge by JBM-HH. “If you receive a similar instruction from an outside company, you will pay hundreds of dollars,” he said.

The theme of the May 24 seminar, “Operation Millionaire” included: developing your budget, credit management and debt liquidation, consumer rights and protection, identity theft awareness, saving and investment planning and credit reports and scores.

“Building Wealth for Life” was the theme of the second part of the seminar, May 31.

Servicemembers attended the workshop, gaining financial information which included: home buying, understanding foreclosure, the importance of insurance, retirement planning, living wills and trusts, planning for college and youth savings.

Servicemembers attending the workshops, took notes, asked questions and actively participated in both workshops.

“Leaders, take this great opportunity offered by ACS and advise your noncommissioned officers and Soldiers to learn more about financial readiness,” said Leiker.
