ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Rock Island, Ill. -- The Davenport Parks and Recreation Department has a recreational program designed for persons with special needs. The Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program provides structured social settings that offer classes in several topics such as sports & fitness, life skills, art, and special events.

Registration is required and class sizes are limited. You can find out more information about the programs offered by the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Department at http://recpro.ci.davenport.ia.us.

A variety of educational classes and social events, a few listed below, are offered throughout the year.

- If sports is what you are looking for then you might want to look into the Special Olympics Iowa Unified Golf Tournament, which is June 25 at the Red Hawk Golf Course. This program pairs individuals with and without disabilities and gives people with disabilities and opportunity to compete in a team environment.

- The Summer Cookin’ Club registration is currently open for the July 5-26 session. Attendees will learn how to create well-balanced summer meals. This course is for all persons with disabilities ages 12 years and older. Limited class size. http://recpro.ci.davenport.ia.us/Default.aspx?mode=crs&crsid=1423&id=10&scid=13&cid=7

- The Annual Summer Swim Bash is coming up on July 17 at Splash Landing in Bettendorf. It is an evening of swimming, music, and refreshments for youth and adults with mental/physical disabilities and their families to enjoy and make new friends and create lasting memories. Persons who need one-on-one assistance must bring a companion into the water with them. $4 admission fee is payable at the door.
