KABUL " The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded $11 million in construction contracts in support of the Afghanistan National Army this week.
The two contracts consist of the design and construction of the ANA facilities.
The first contract is for the construction of a $4.3 million provincial response company in Maydan Shahr, Wardak Province, Afghanistan. The ANA Company will include two barrack buildings, a dining facility, an administrative building, a guard and gate house and a refueling point. Rahmat Sadat Construction Company is the contractor for the project. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2012.
The second contract awarded is for the construction of $7 million in facilities for the 111th ANA Capital Division Quick Reaction Force Kandak, or Afghan battalion. The site is located in Kabul and will contain more than 15 new buildings and K-span facilities to include a morale, welfare and recreation building, non commissioned officer, enlisted and officer barracks, a training building, a vehicle maintenance facility, trash collection points and an arms storage facility. Venco Imtiaz Construction Co. is the contractor for the project. Construction is scheduled to be complete in one year.
The contractors for both projects are based out of Kabul.
The Corps of Engineers is the primary organization building army bases, police stations, roads, airstrips and other infrastructure projects in Afghanistan to increase the country’s stability and economy. The Corps of Engineers has two districts in the country " Afghanistan Engineer District-North, which is based in Kabul; and Afghanistan Engineer District-South, which is based in Kandahar.
