FORT STEWART, Ga. - Fort Stewart sixth grade students marked a new chapter in their lives during a Rites of Passage ceremony, May 26 at Kessler Elementary School. Thirty-five military-connected students successfully completed their studies and will transition next fall into seventh grade at off post schools.

Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander, Col. Kevin Milton, addressed excited youth and gave them words of encouragement during the ceremony.

“What an exciting day … I know why you [youth] are excited, because it’s the last day of school and you’re thinking about what you are going to do over the summer months. You’ve been very successful in your school work and you should be excited about that.”

Colonel Milton encouraged students to continue reading during the summer, but most importantly to enjoy their well deserved break.

During the program, students were recognized for their scholastic achievements in front of beaming parents.

Colonel Milton joined school principal, Carol Lee Kipp Caldwell, and awarded students with a certificate of achievement that culminated this milestone in their young life.

“I wish other students the best in their studies,” was the sentiment of 12-year-old Maya Jones. She along with her classmates marked a new chapter in their lives.

“I’ll miss my teachers and friends…but nothing is forever,” she

added.

Resiliency, a key quality among military connected

children, was the overall them of the ceremony.

“Don’t tell me that the sky is the limit, when there is plenty of space

on the moon,” Jones added.

Maya’s mom, Staff Sgt. Stephanie Roberts of Headquarters and Headquarters Support

Division, shared words of encouragement for other Family Members during the reception.

“Don’t get discouraged about the moves [permanent change of station] and take one

day at a time, she said. “Look forward and you can achieve anything.”
