Daniel J. Whitmarsh, 54th Signal Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, was recognized as 160th Signal Brigade Department of the Army (DA) Civilian of the Quarter during a May 27 ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
Whitmarsh, who has played an integral role in several major projects since arriving in Kuwait, was surprised by the honor. “I have a little over 12 years in uniform, active duty and Reserve, but I’m new to being a DA civilian,” he said. “I was just trying to work hard and do a good job, so when I was told I was nominated it was unexpected.”
While he didn’t expect to win the award, Whitmarsh said it was nice to be recognized. “For me, it’s important to remember that the reason I’m here is to support the Soldiers who serve the Army with great courage and honor during dangerous times,” he said. “I hope that by doing the best job I can, I will make their jobs a little easier in some small way. I’m proud to serve with them.”
