TIKRIT, Iraq -- U.S. Army Europe's 1st Armored Division officially assumed control of Multi-National Division - North in a transfer of authority ceremony at Contingency Operating Base Speicher here Oct. 28.

Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, the division's commanding general, accepted responsibility for the MND-N mission from Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, commander of the outgoing 25th Infantry Division.

The mission the 1st Armored Division has accepted centers on providing command and control capabilities to Multi-National Division - North. The division brings approximately 1,200 Soldiers to perform their mission in northern Iraq.
