Holocaust survivor speaks at ASC observance

As part of the Army Sustainment Command's Holocaust Days of Remembrance Observance, Walter Reed, born Werner Rindsberg in WAfA1/4rzberg, Germany, shared the story of his family's persecution by Nazi Germany and his three-year escape through Europe and across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States as a teen. Soon after Reed gained his U.S. citizenship, he was drafted into the Army and shipped out to a war-torn Europe in 1944 serving at the front lines as an interrogator in the 95th Infantry Division. Assigned as part of Gen. George S. Patton's renowned Third Army, the division saw fierce action throughout Northern France and Germany. Reed was the guest speaker for the ASC's May 3 observance in Rock Island Arsenal's Black Hawk Conference Room.
