Robert Kosek has been awarded the Joint Munitions Command's 2010 Peer Superior Choice Award. He was chosen from among the winners of the quarterly Beyond Expectation Peer Awards as the premier choice of 2010.

Kosek, an ammunition program integration specialist, was nominated by his co-workers in the logistics integration division who cannot say enough good things about him.

"Bob's the best," said Jill Adkins. "He is upfront, knows his stuff and assists depot users every day."

"Any time you win an award from your peers, it is a special honor and a little humbling," said Kosek.

Co-workers feel that, in 2010, Kosek demonstrated exceptional dedication and performance as JMC's Logistics Modernization Program (Army software used to track inventory and accountability of ammunition stockpiles) ammunition solution architect, LMP support lead, and LMP/Smart Chain (a software program used at depots) interface lead.

"The best part of my job is visiting depots and helping the users understand the relationships between LMP and Smart Chain," Kosek shared.

For 15 months, Kosek was deployed to Marlton, N.J. to work with depot subject matter experts at Computer Science Corporation where all code programming for LMP is done. Kosek coordinated with CSC staff to identify and document the requirements, develop system solutions, and lead testing activities in preparation for roll-out of LMP at JMC headquarters. Kosek's co-workers say his thoroughness, attention to detail and ability to multi-task were major contributors to the successful deployment of LMP in October of 2010.

"The 15 months I spent at Marlton helping configure the LMP AMMO solution was one of the most challenging [periods] of my career," remarked Kosek.

According to co-workers, Kosek also made a significant difference in providing and managing automation tools to support asset visibility, meeting Department of Defense requirements. He managed implementation, execution and policy for 2D barcoding and radio frequency identification technology which enabled JMC's depots to realize cost savings and increased operational efficiencies.

Kosek was involved with testing and fielding of all new hand-held scanners which increase the scan range, improve safety and reduce inventory time at JMC installations.

Kosek developed the Army implementation plan that outlines hardware, software and policy that JMC will use to convert to the new joint ammunition package label, which is a bar code label that can be used by all branches of the service.

Above all, Kosek's co-workers say that he is most deserving of this recognition for his accomplishments. They feel he is an outstanding team member whose personal example inspires trust, camaraderie and a sense of ownership. His exceptional managerial and problem solving abilities, as well as his common sense approach to process improvements, are proven assets to JMC and the Army.
