WIESBADEN, Germany - From demolition to renovation, construction work in the Hainerberg Housing area will be kicking up dust through the end of this year.
And U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden officials are encouraging Hainerberg residents to stay advised of schedules for upcoming projects.
"Communication is the key," said Col. Jeffrey Dill, USAG Wiesbaden commander, during the March 17 Hainerberg Town Hall meeting at Hainerberg Elementary School.
Garrison residents are likely already familiar with the bigger transformation and quality-of-life improvement projects peppering Wiesbaden's largest military housing area.
Projects include:
A-A A! Wiesbaden High School gymnasium construction and improvements currently underway.
A-A A! A $5 million modular Child Development Center recently completed next to the Hainerberg Chapel.
A-A A! Tree felling and building demolition at the corner of Colorado and Washington streets for the new PX and Commissary complex - the first of which should be under construction starting in 2012.
The recent town hall, however, focused on four smaller projects affecting individual housing units in Hainerberg.
From April to December crews will be correcting drainage and sealing basements on 28 buildings.
This, according to Michael Sly, chief of the garrison's engineering division, will help correct and/or prevent flooding issues some of the housing units are experiencing in the basements.
Also from April to December construction crews will work on stairwell repairs in 15 Hainerberg Housing buildings.
Starting in September crews will work to install rails along steps and walkways throughout Hainerberg and will install bike racks near the entries of 13 buildings.
Sly said the garrison's Transformation Stationing Management Office and Directorate of Public Works Housing Division will be monitoring sites closely to ensure projects start and end on time.
Residents will receive a memorandum stating the scope of work and proposed schedule once the projects are awarded for construction.
Residents can also expect a two-week notice before the start of construction work that directly impacts their residences.
The day before the start of construction, garrison staff will confirm with the contractor the construction schedule.
Should the schedule be changed, residents will be notified.
Unless otherwise approved, work crew hours are not to start before 7:30 a.m. and must end by 6 p.m. on the weekdays.
Weekly updates will be provided to affected residents on the status of the projects.
