FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Silver Wings Golf Course held its Spring Invitational March 26 as members and golfers came out to participate in the first event of the season.

Participants played a 36-hole individual stroke match over the weekend.

"This is our first event and it is for any ability level. It is the start to the spring golf season," said David Unsicker, business manager at Silver Wings Golf Course.

First place gross was Bill Tyner, who shot the overall lowest score for two days. The first place net winner was Larry Pascual, who shot the lowest score in two days, minus handicap. First place senior gross was Pat Kelly and first place senior net was Fred Brown.

"Golf is an enjoyable activity and the competition really drives me," said Tyner. "I have been playing 20 years, I am the current club champion and I have played in two U.S.-sanctioned championships."

Tim Duncan placed second in gross while Bobby Betts placed third. Second place net was Ryan Calipi and third was Kit Hatcher. George Llopis placed second in senior gross and Len Claytor placed second in senior net.

"I played a more normal game and got lucky," said Fred Brown, first place senior net winner. "I have been playing since the early 70s when I couldn't play baseball anymore and had to pick another sport."

Others who entered the competition have many years of golf under their belts and enjoy the competition, such as CW5 Dennis Seymour, Aviation Safety Office course chief.

"I enjoy competition and it's fun to see where you stack up against your peers," said Seymour. "You also get to see how well your practice is going."
