ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Rock Island, Ill. - At a TACOM-ILSC town hall briefing at Rock Island on Nov. 2, Bruce Stout, Director of Weapons Product Support Integration Directorate, and Jerry Jackson, Director of Weapons Readiness & Sustainment Directorate, were presented Samuel Sharpe medals and certificates. The certificates and medals were presented by Maj. Gen. Kurt Stein, Commanding General, TACOM, LCMC.
The certificates were signed on Aug. 23 by Col. Clark LeMasters, Jr, Chief of Ordnance, and Lt. Gen. Mitchell Stevenson, Deputy Chief of Staff, G4. The presentation, which also provided membership to the brotherhood of Gunsmiths, Wheelwrights, and Metal Workers, was to recognize their significant contributions to the United States Army Ordnance Corps.
Jackson was honored for his contributions that have significantly impacted Department of Defense readiness and sustainment. His leadership provided innovative solutions and economic strategies that have provided efficient and effective integrated logistics support and life-cycle sustainment support for systems under his realm of control. Specific projects Jackson contributed to included: Support of Small Arms Readiness and Evaluation Team and Chemical and Biological Evaluation Team, and Non-Army Managed Items initiatives. With more than 38 years of government service, Jackson left a legacy of savings and improved support to the Soldier for decades to come.
Stout was recognized for his commitment to improve sustainment and readiness for multiple weaponry systems. His contributions have significantly impacted DoD readiness. His innovations have enabled the Soldier to be battle-ready in any environment. He was recognized for specific contributions including: SARET, Small Arms Support Centers, M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle Program, and the M249 Repair and Return Program. Stout has been an exemplary employee for more than 40 years. His contributions have been conducted with the highest regard to ethical conduct, concerns for economy and attention to human resources.
Both men are senior leaders that have earned the respect and appreciation of their peers and subordinates. Demonstrating the highest degree of moral character, integrity and professional competence these men were found worthy to receive the Samuel Sharpe Award.
