FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Youth participating in the EDGE! photography exhibition displayed pictures that told a story March 12.

Children ages 11-18 learned different aspects of photography from volunteers during the week leading up to the event, according to Denise Honeycutt, Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation partnership specialist.

The children took photos in different settings including the library, outdoors and their home.

Giovanna Valle showcased her photography to her father, CW3 Luis Valle, B Company 1st Battalion, 12th Aviation Regiment as part of Edge!'s Behind the Lens Photography Exhibition.

"I love how I can tell a story even in just one quick snapshot," said Valle. "One of my photos is about someone who has been through hard times."

Volunteer Jack Bailey viewed the works of the children with whom he shared his love and passion for photography with earlier in the week.

"I hope I have taught them a skill and also a new way to view the world around them, to see the things that are beautiful and those that are not," Bailey said.

Eleven children participated in the exhibition; participant Ryan Burrow was pleased to show his work to his Family and others during the event.

"I really enjoyed going out and taking photos," Burrow said. "My photos are of things that inspired me in one way or another."

The exhibition was part of EDGE! activities for Fort Rucker youth. EDGE! provides up to four different activities each week for youth.

"We want to increase the number of youth into our facilities and make them aware of what is available to them," Honeycutt said. "We are opening up new opportunities."

Anyone interested in sharing a skill with the youth Monday-Friday from 4-6 p.m. should contact Honeycutt at 255-0666.
