COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Army announced that Brig. Gen. Kurt S. Story reassignment as the J-33 director, United States Forces-Iraq, OPERATION NEW DAWN, Iraq. Story has served as the deputy commanding general for operations, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command / Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) since July 23, 2008.

"BG Story has done a marvelous job providing leadership to the operational elements of USASMDC/ARSTRAT that include the 1st Space Brigade and the 100th Missile Defense Brigade. His new assignment will undoubtedly be good for the Army and for him," said Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica, commanding general, USASMDC/ARSTRAT.

He added: "As a key leader and integral member of the command, he played a major role in providing trained and ready space and missile defense forces and capabilities to combatant commanders and to the warfighter."

Story is scheduled to receive an end-of-tour award at 2 p.m., Friday, March 11. The event will be hosted by Formica at Building 3 on Peterson Air Force Base. Col. Tim Coffin, who replaces Story, assumed duties this week as deputy commander for operations. Coffin recently returned to the command after serving as chief of the U.S. Strategic Command Forward Integration Team Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011.

Leaders will be available for comment following the ceremony.
