UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, Iowa City, Iowa - The Rock Island Arsenal-Garrison Equal Employment Opportunity Office and the University of Iowa's REACH program shared a classroom and employment opportunities with Hawkeye students on Feb. 9 at the university's College of Education Lindquist Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
James Stout, the Rock Island Arsenal-Garrison EEO special emphasis program manager, presented information on federal employment opportunities to 18 students from the REACH program.
REACH, Realizing Educational and Career Hopes, is a 2-year certificate program that emphasizes life and social skills, independent living, academic enrichment, and career development for students with learning and cognitive disabilities, per the program overview.
"REACH is an excellent program and the perfect setting to show individuals with disabilities employment opportunities available to them through the federal government," Stout said.
The REACH course instructors, Deb Larson and Liz Gorman, provided assistance during the classroom phase of presentation, and also gave Stout a tour of the REACH facility.
