NATICK, Mass. - The Commanding General of the U.S. Army Material Command, Gen. Ann Dunwoody, visited the Natick Soldier Systems Center on March 3 and saw many of the items that are developed at NSSC to assist and protect the Soldier on the battlefield.

Joining the general on her visit to NSSC was her senior enlisted adviser, Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Mellinger.

"It's always a wonderful day when I get a chance to meet the people who do the heavy lifting," said Dunwoody of her visit to Natick. "I get to see the leading edge of technology here and see the value that Natick brings to our Army."

This marked Dunwoody's first visit to NSSC. She took command of AMC, one of the largest commands in the Army with more than 70,000 employees, on Nov. 14, 2008. AMC touches 49 states and 144 countries.

"Today gave Natick a chance to highlight the key work done by the team to support our war fighters and homeland defenders," said Brig. Gen. Harold Greene, senior commander, NSSC. "Nothing could be more important than protecting the sons and daughters of America."

Dunwoody's tour of the installation included the Combat Feeding Directorate, the Doriot Climatic Chambers, the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, and briefings on clothing and individual equipment and anthropometry.

The general began her career as a parachute rigger and finished her visit to Natick with an aerial delivery presentation.

"A key take away was the power of the collective team working together to provide the best capability possible with the resources provided by our great country," said Greene of Dunwoody's visit. "I am continually amazed at the great work done by the Natick team - and it was reinforced everywhere we went today."

"It's always great to get out of the headquarters and visit," Dunwoody said. "It gives me a chance to recharge my batteries."
