YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - Eighth Army is honing its warfighting skills around the Korean Peninsula from Feb. 28 - March 10 during exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle 2011.
"Eighth Army trains year round to stay ready to defend the Republic of Korea," said Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. John D. Johnson. "But these exercises allow us to train with our combined and joint partners."
Johnson said Eighth Army is playing a key role in the command post and field exercises that incorporate the full range of equipment, capabilities and personnel.
Johnson added that the exercises are held every year to ensure the ROK-U.S. Alliance is ready to respond to any contingency.
"Our enduring alliance with the Republic of Korea has been tested many times in the past, from repelling the full-blown communist invasion 60 years ago to dealing with numerous provocations since then," said Johnson. "Key Resolve and Foal Eagle keep us ready to defend the Republic of Korea and they strengthen the alliance that is the cornerstone of security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region."
"These exercises are yet another example of our enduring commitment to our allies here in the Republic of Korea," said Johnson.
The routine defensive command post and field exercises take place about the same time every year.
