LONDON -- U.S. Army and British defense officials partnered Feb. 17 to strengthen research and development ties.
Representatives from the UK Trade and Investment Defense and Security Organization and the U.S. Army International Technology Center - Atlantic discussed ways to bring their scientists together.
"We, including our joint partners in The Edison House, can provide them another portal to the Department of Defense and a place where they can refer local researchers with new ideas seeking DoD interest and support," USAITC-A chief scientist Dr. Michael Sennett said.
The Edison House is home to basic research and development under the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy.
UKTI DSO provides the U.S. Army with another access point to the Ministry of Defense and the broader UK government, Sennett said.
The UK is supportive of defense and security exports that have wide economic and industrial benefits, said Roger Matthews, deputy director of UKTI DSO Research and Development West.
Recent pushes from the UK to identify internationally marketable products earlier in their development cycle may help to reduce costs and improve returns.
"Benefits of this morning's meeting include improving and enlarging the USAITC-A communication network and building partnerships," Sennett said. "This is win-win for us and the UKTI as we leverage each other's activities."
