FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. - Imagine having professional musicians at your fingertips, providing private lessons any time you desired. This is exactly what The United States Army Field Band has done by incorporating instructional videos into their Web site via an "Educational Video Series Player."
What makes the "Educational Video Series Player" unique is that it is designed for all levels of musicians and music enthusiasts. The videos are divided into tabs ranging from history and maintenance to advanced playing techniques. Users can select the topic that interests them most and go directly to the lesson.
The player is also optimized for easy sharing. "We want to have a site that people that can come to not only to find subject matter experts, but also to share content via social networks. Our new platform will allow for that," said Jared Morgan, videographer. "Links can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, or even imbedded into your own Web site. It's a resource they can watch while at school or at home and share with their friends."
In addition, the player is built around a universal platform, easily launched from a PC or Mac. It does not require the user to download any software, so playing the videos from work, home or smart device is simple.
Currently, the educational videos include: trombone, trumpet, percussion, singing, big band, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn. According to production supervisor Master Sgt. Scott Vincent, this is just the beginning. Vincent has plans to produce flute and saxophone instructional videos in the coming years.
The videos are available by visiting www.ArmyFieldBand.com. From there users will see a link titled "Educational Video Series Player" that will launch the instructional videos.
The best part about the videos and the player is that they are free and open to anyone wishing to learn more about music or a specific instrument. Whether you are a seasoned musician or learning to play, there is something here for everyone.
