Brigade Modernization Command
What is it'
Brigade Modernization Command (BMC) is the new name for the Future Force Integration Directorate (FFID), part of the Army Capabilities Integration Center. This change aligns with the Army's modernization plan and validates BMC's enduring mission. BMC has a key role in physical integration and evaluations of the network, capability packages and other capabilities to provide doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel and facilities recommendations to the Army. The Army attached the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division (2/1 AD), to the BMC, assigning it the Army Evaluation Task Force (AETF) mission.
As a command, BMC has the appropriate authorities to man, train, equip and organize 2/1 AD to conduct integrated Army capability evaluations. These evaluations will double in number and scope in FYs 11&12, encompassing many elements at Fort Bliss and White Sands Missile Range (WMSR). This increased mission load will bring additional resources from supporting Army organizations, and command status will facilitate critical coordination between BMC and its partners throughout the materiel, combat and training development communities.
What has the Army done'
The Army established 2/1 AD under BMC to evaluate the network and other Army Modernization technologies and to develop tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) for their employment. This unique Army mission supports adaptive evaluation of materiel capabilities, unit organizational design, operational concepts, and war-fighting capabilities. The brigade provides feedback that allows the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) to assess modernization concepts and their implications, and enables the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) to assess the technical performance of these materiel technologies as well as other emerging capabilities.
What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future'
The Army will conduct an Integrated Network Baseline Evaluation (INBE) in FY11 at Fort Bliss / WSMR, to develop a baseline network capability for the Army's FY12 Integrated Network Test. BMC will transition from one annual evaluation cycle to two, aligning with Army personnel rotation cycles to enhance predictability in scheduling, production, and resourcing for network and capability stakeholders. 2/1 AD current integrated evaluations will include the Joint Tactical Radio System Rifleman's Radio (Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit, Ground Mobile Radio and the Mounted Soldier System Limited User Test.
Why is this important to the Army'
BMC supports accelerated delivery of select capabilities to the current force, reducing operational risk prior to delivery and helping build a versatile mix of mobile, networked and combat effective Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). 2/1 AD provides immediate Soldier feedback during evaluation, refining capabilities and developing recommended TTPs. This helps sustain our Army as the dominant land power, capable of full spectrum operations, while supporting our nation's commitment to give our Soldiers the best equipment available
