HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. - In some cultures rain is an auspicious sign of good things to come. As the rain fell Jan. 25 on Hunter Army Airfield, a new battalion commander saw another meaning for what the rain signified.
"We fight in all weather - rain or shine - so being here and having this change of command ceremony despite the rain is a sign that we are here to do what our nation asks us to do in any situation," said Lt. Col. Cory Sena, the incoming commander for 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade.
The ceremony also was a time to say farewell to outgoing commander Lt. Col. Michael Musiol who led the battalion while deployed last year to Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Lt. Col. Musiol led the battalion to fly more than 29,400 hours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and conducted more than 3,500 missions in Paktya, Paktika and Khowst provinces.
For Lt. Col. Musiol the rain was seen not only as a sign of good things to come for him as he moves on to one of the Senior Service Colleges but also he said for the battalion.
"If rain is a good sign, it may be a good sign for the task force and maybe they can spend a few years at home before having to go fight again," said Lt. Col. Musiol.
