Lauren Hyman of Texarkana, Texas, armored vehicle driver for the 64th Military Police Company based at Combat Oupost Fortress, says hello to an Afghan child during a foot patrol in Noor Gal District Jan. 3. Hyman and U.S. Army Spc. Cristine Gallagher of Victorville, Calif., are the only two females assigned to COP Fortress. Their team has been in contact with the enemy approximately 100 times in the nine months they have been assigned to COP Fortress.

U.S. Army Soldiers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, fire their weapons as part of the "stress shoot" at Forward Operating Base Sharana Jan. 9. The stress shoot is the final phase of the Toccoa Tough resiliency training class hosted by the Task Force Currahee resiliency team to give Soldiers the opportunity to take a break from their daily routine and help them refocus on their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.
