PX Refill Pharmacy closed for renovation

By Sgt. Robert Schaffner, Fort Stewart Public AffairsJanuary 13, 2011

FORT STEWART, Ga. - Interior demolition of the Post Exchange Refill Pharmacy began Jan. 10 to renovate and make way for a next-generation pharmacy automation system to enhance efficiency and growth.

The remodel is scheduled to be complete by Feb. 7 and not expected to create delays in the prescription refill process.

During the estimated $250k PX Refill Pharmacy renovation project, the pharmacy has been temporarily re-located to the Winn Army Community Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy, located across the hall from the Warrior Refractive Surgery Clinic, said Sgt. 1st Class Lance O'Neal, the Department of Pharmacy non-commissioned officer in-charge at Winn Army Community Hospital.

Hours of operation will remain the same.

The intent of the renovation is to expand the refill pharmacy capabilities to written prescriptions in the near future, said Lt. Col. William Starnes, Chief, Department of Pharmacy at Winn. The new system will bottle, cap and label prescriptions, which should provide more time to be able to handle written prescriptions.

Currently, written civilian prescriptions can be filled at two Winn Pharmacy locations: Hawks Troop Medical Clinic Pharmacy and the Main Pharmacy at WACH.

Servicemembers, Family Members and eligible beneficiaries are encouraged to not forget about the Over-The-Counter Self Care Program when the needs arise, reminded Lt. Col. Starnes.

Eligible members may receive OTC medications at WACH main Outpatient Pharmacy, Fort Stewart PX Refill Pharmacy, Lloyd C. Hawks Troop Medical Clinic Pharmacy (active duty only) or Tuttle AHC Pharmacy. For addresses, hours and rules and regulations, check out the Web site:
