FORT BENNING, Ga. - Looking for something to do during the training holiday'

Outdoor Recreation will host Paintball at the Woodlands Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Woodlands entrance is located on Dublinsky Street near Dixie Road.

The paintball tournament is open to all military ID cardholders and family members. No registration is required and players of all experience levels are welcome - however, the suggested age limit is 13 years and older.

"Everyone out there are always open to the new people who have never played before," said Brittany Beadle, Outdoor Recreation specialist.

Beadle said the goal of the tournament is simply to provide soldiers with something fun to do during their training holiday.

Beadle does not expect the winter weather to affect the turnout, though the cold weather may cause the paintballs to harden so that they don't break as easily.

"People are pretty die hard," she said. "I don't think cold weather will keep anybody from showing up."

Beadle has been in charge of running Paintball at the Woodlands for about two years and there are five tournaments annually. Beadle said the average participation is around 30 to 40 players and over time she has seen an increase in turnout.

For this year's tournaments, Beadle hopes to see military units challenge one another for bragging rights.

Teams are randomly assigned and players have the choice of playing short-field and long-field games, as well as capture the flag and attack and defend on the Woodlands massive paintball field.

Beginning players do not have to worry about purchasing their own equipment. The Outdoor Recreation office will have equipment available for rent.

For $30 a day, a player can rent a gun, mask, hopper, carbon dioxide tank and 500 paintballs. The office is located at 1707 Gillespie St. and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. Carbon dioxide tanks and paintballs will be sold on site at the Woodlands.
