FORT McPHERSON, Ga. (Jan. 4, 2011) - Maj. Gen. Howard B. Bromberg was promoted to lieutenant general during a ceremony at U.S. Army Forces Command headquarters here today, and assumed duties as deputy commanding general and chief of staff for FORSCOM.

Bromberg, who served as Special Assistant to the FORSCOM Commanding General pending confirmation of his promotion by the U.S. Senate, will now oversee the training and readiness of more than 780,000 Soldiers in the active Army, National Guard, Army Reserve and about 3,500 Army civilians who work for the Army's largest command, FORSCOM.

Gen. James D. Thurman, FORSCOM commander, hosted the ceremony that was attended by Bromberg's family, friends, mentors, colleagues and fellow Soldiers. "When you're looking for a deputy, it takes a special person, and a person who can quickly see through very complex and complicated issues to get solutions. There is no doubt when the Army picked Howard to be the deputy commanding general of FORSCOM, they picked the right guy, at the right time," said Thurman.

During his remarks, Bromberg thanked his family, friends, mentors, and fellow Soldiers. "Those are the four elements that make our careers. I am privileged, honored, and very humbled for this opportunity to still be up here after 32 years," said Bromberg.

Following his promotion, Bromberg presented flowers to his mother Bernice; wife, Glenda; and daughter Leah who attended the ceremony in FORSCOM's Kerwin Conference Room. He also praised the support he's had from his family throughout his career, explaining that his promotion was as much about his family as it was about him.
