'Tis the season: Soldiers, Families celebrate together

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. -- Soldiers of the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command gather with Family at the T/Sgt. Vernon T. McGarity United States Army Reserve Cen-ter Dec. 18 for a holiday celebration. Ac-tivities were provided for children, and Soldiers and Family members enjoyed a luncheon after the unit's awards presenta-tions. Soldiers were recognized for out-standing performance during their re-quired two-week annual training held this year at Fort McCoy, Wis.

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. -- Sgt. Francis Manning dresses as an elf, while a family member of a Soldier plays Santa for Family Day here Dec. 18. Children of service members lined up to sit on Santa's lap for photos and gifts. Sol-diers and Family members enjoyed a luncheon after the unit's award presentations, while activities were provided for children throughout the day. This event was organized and hosted by the 316th ESC Family Readiness Group. The group is run by Soldiers and Family members to pro-vide morale, welfare and recreational events for all mili-tary members and their Families within the command. The 316th ESC is an Army Reserve logistics headquar-ters. Over 11,000 Soldiers are assigned to the unit with operations from Virginia to Maine. Army Reserve logis-tics' Soldiers handle supply operations, ammunition stor-age, transportation and food service duties to support the Active Army. The command was last deployed in 2008 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Frederick Holt repeats each line as he re-enlists here Dec. 18 during Family Day. Holt is the supply sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 316th ESC. Holt, from Oakdale, Pa., has spent the last 13 years on active duty with the US Army.

Paul Sutton of Verona, Pa., with a Meritori-ous Service Medal during Family Day here Dec. 18. Family Day was a combination holiday celebration and awards presentation for Soldiers of the 316th ESC. Sutton, a 316th ESC Solider, retired this year after twenty-two years of service with both the Active Army and the Army Reserve.
