HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. The Soldiers of the 10th Transportation Company, 260th Quartermaster Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, felt that it was a long time coming to receive their deployment awards for going to Haiti, Jan. 23.
The award ceremony was held at the 10th Transportation Company headquarters area. While many Soldiers have received an Army Achievement Medal, a few of the Soldiers also received the Army Commendation Medal. Sergeant 1st Class Shelby Cross, 10th Trans. Co., received a Meritorious Service Medal for his efforts during the mission.
First Sergeant Andrew Durant, 10th Trans. Co. first sergeant, felt that it was outstanding that they were receiving their awards.
The unit found out that they were being deployed to Haiti four days before they had to deploy.
"It's a reflection on how we react on short notice," said 1st Sgt. Durant.
The Soldiers reacted very well, according to Capt. Stephen Lambe, 10th Transportation Co. commander. Throughout their time in Haiti, there were times that junior enlisted Soldiers were taking senior enlisted positions.
"This award ceremony was long overdue; the Soldiers did outstanding work in Haiti," says Capt. Lambe. "Some of the specialists had to make noncommissioned officer decisions when dealing with the Haitians."
