LUXEMBURG, Germany (Nov. 21, 2010) -- The U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team today won its first medals at the Culinary World Cup being held in Luxemburg through Nov. 24.

The team won gold for its cold food table. The table consists of seven, three-course meals that are prepared to be displayed cold.

Sgt. Trent Skinner, a U.S. Army Reserve Soldier and the team's sculptor, won a gold medal, five silver medals, and one bronze medal for his sculptures that accompanied the meals on the cold food table.

The Culinary World Cup is held every four years in Luxemburg. This year, nine military teams competed against each other. The competition consists of the cold food table display and the preparation of a hot, three-course meal for 100 people on a field kitchen.

This year the team served its hot meal Wednesday. On Thursday, the international jury will announce the winner of the Culinary World Cup.

U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team from Fort Lee, Va., has been training in Germany since early November in preparation for the Culinary World Cup.

"We're going to compete against seven other nations, so there are eight nations going head-to-head," Chief Warrant Officer 4 Russell Campbell, the manager of the team.

"We compete against each other, but the standard that we are judged by is the World Association of Chefs Society standards," Campbell said "Everyone starts off with the maximum points allowed, and based on our performance from sanitation to food preparation, that's where we can lose points."

The Culinary World Cup is hosted in Luxemburg every four years along with the Expogast Trade Show. The world cup involves many different types of culinary competitions, including an international military culinary competition.
