President nominates USAACE commanding general for 2nd star

FORT RUCKER, Ala. - The Secretary of Defense announced Nov. 19 that the President of the United States has nominated Army Brig. Gen. Anthony G. Crutchfield for appointment to the rank of major general. Crutchfield is currently serving as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker.

Crutchfield assumed his current duties in August.

Prior to coming to Fort Rucker, Crutchfield served as director for the Joint Center for Operational Analysis.

Crutchfield has served tours across the United States as well as in Germany, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has commanded at the platoon, company, battalion, and brigade levels. He is a master Army Aviator and is rated in the AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Blackhawk, and the AH-1 Cobra Helicopters. Crutchfield also served as the deputy commander/chief of staff of U.S. Army Accessions Command at Fort Monroe, Va.

Commissioned in 1982, he has earned degrees from Marshall University, Webster University and the Army War College.

His decorations include awards of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal. He is authorized to wear the Master Army Aviator Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
