FORT STEWART, Ga. - In order to re-affirm their commitment to improving the lives of Soldiers and Family Members, 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart leadership broke ground for Marne View, a new housing development of 92 homes for junior officers at Fort Stewart, Nov. 9.
"Let's give the military the absolute best," U.S. Representative (Ga.) Jack Kingston said at the event. "It's not just in the theater that we need to focus on, but it's the quality of life back home. Our goal of getting a high quality of life to the military and their Family Members is being achieved."
Brigadier General Jeffrey Phillips, 3rd ID deputy commander - rear; Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Ashmen, 3rd ID command sergeant major- rear; Col. Kevin Milton, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander; and Command Sgt. Maj. James Ervin, Fort Stewart IMCOM command sergeant major; were also in attendance.
"We're taking care of our Families and our communities because our Soldiers are taking care of us in harm's way on a daily basis," Col. Milton said.
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christian Hazel, with G-6 Net Operations, 3rd ID, attended the groundbreaking with his Family.
"It feels pretty good to see the military is moving forward with Family housing and improving quality of life for the Family Members as well as the Soldiers," he said. "When the Soldiers have good housing, a good community and good facilities, they work better for the Army."
This groundbreaking is part of the Residential Communities Initiative that has been an ongoing project on Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. Since 2003, 1,449 new homes have been constructed and 1,330 homes have been renovated to higher standards. The current construction project is set to be complete by December 2012.
