DAEJEON, Republic of Korea -- The sixth Training and Doctrine Conference between US Army TRADOC and the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) TRADOC was hosted by Lt. Gen. Seoung-Kyoo Park, commander of ROKA TRADOC, from Oct. 18 to 20.
The Training and Doctrine Conferences provide an opportunity to exchange information related to mutually compatible core competencies and functions between counterpart TRADOC organizations with the objectives of enhancing interoperability and sustaining key partner relationships.
The U.S. Head of Delegation (HOD) was Brig. Gen. Robert Dyess, director of Requirements Integration Directorate, Army Capabilities Integration Center. HOD for ROKA was Brig. Gen. Gi Hong Koo, chief of doctrine.
Each party presented briefings on five topics. The U.S. delegation presentations included; developing capabilities in support of current operations, supporting the warfighter, leading change for the Army, and connecting Soldiers to digital applications. The Korean delegation presented on: improving school education in order to enhance combined arms operations; high-tech security systems; ROKA-U.S. Army command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence interoperability plans; development on conducting effective electric warfare; and a topic requested by last year's conference delegation - ROK Zaytun Division operations in Iraq. In turn, these briefings led to insightful questions, detailed discussions and selected agreed-to-actions, all leading to a better understanding between the two armies.
The conference allowed Brig. Gen. Dyess to meet with Lt. Gen. Seoung-Kyoo Park, commander, ROKA TRADOC, Maj. Gen. Choon-Soo Kim, commander of the Consolidated Army Logistics School, and Maj. Gen. In-Moo Hwang, commander of the Korean Army College. Park set the tone and atmosphere by emphasizing the alliance between our armies, "we go together."
While in Korea, the delegation also spent time at the ROKA TRADOC Hall of Honors in Daejeon and toured the Korean War Memorial in Seoul.
