FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Soldiers and Families looking for fun ways to celebrate Halloween have many options available through the end of the month.
Check out these activities hosted by Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation staff to enjoy the spooky holiday.
Terrorific Fall Festival and Hayride
Riding Stables staff hosts a Family-friendly Terrorific Fall Festival and Hayride Oct. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Games, jack-o'-lanterns, graveyard walks, horse rides, a hayride through the barn stables, concessions and a costume contest are targeted to Families with children ages 3-12, said Leda Green, Riding Stables manager. The event is open to the public.
"It gives Families something to do outdoors. We're trying to get them associated with the horses and the stables, and let them know we're not just here for patrons, we're here for the community," she said.
Tickets are $4 until Friday, and are available at Leisure Travel Services by calling 255-2997. Event day tickets are $5.

BOSS haunted house
The annual Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers haunted house offers community members a good scare and a chance to help others Oct. 23 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Fort Rucker Soldiers will oversee about nine various themed stations inside and outside Fortenberry-Colton Physical Fitness Facility, said Brian Jackson, DFMWR Delivery System Program manager.
"The haunted house will be as good, if not better, than last year, with the creative thinking by our units," he said. "The different sections of the haunted house will be very spooky."
Haunted house admission is two non-perishable food items, baby food or formula.
"Patrons will have the opportunity to support the Fort Rucker Food Locker by donating canned goods in exchange for a tour of the BOSS haunted house," Jackson said. "It's for a good cause and what better time than having it on Make a Difference Day."
"I can think of no better way to make a difference than to do something that helps out our Army Families," said Evy Bludsworth, DFMWR deputy director. "The event is great fun for the entire Family."
Children may compete in a pumpkin decorating contest for the first time this year, she said.
Pumpkins may be carved, painted or accessorized in any manner. They should be delivered behind the PFF before 5:45 p.m. on event day and picked up by 10:30 p.m. Haunted house participants will vote for their favorite pumpkins while waiting to tour the facility.
Contest age categories are 2-5 years old, 6-10 years old and 11 years old and up. Winners will be notified by Tuesday, and receive age-appropriate prize baskets.

Haunted hayride
An adult haunted hayride is at the Riding Stables Oct. 29 from 7 p.m. to midnight.
Green said the 25-minute ride incorporates 31 props and stages to spook patrons. Attendees can expect the event to be "very scary," and it should only be attended by adults and mature teenagers.
Tickets are $7 at Leisure Travel Services before the event, and $8 at the door.

Spooky 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run
The annual Spooky 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run happens Oct. 30, with registration inside the Fort Rucker Physical Fitness Facility from 7:30 to 8:40 a.m. The race starts behind the PFF at 9 a.m.
Runners may also participate in a costume contest at 8 a.m., with trophies awarded for the best costume, said Kristi Fink, Physical Fitness Programs coordinator. She encourages dog owners to dress up their pets for added fun.
"People get excited that they get to dress up and do something a little different," she said.
Registration, including T-shirts, costs $15 until Saturday, and is $20 after. A no T-shirt option is available for $10.

Monster Ball
The second Monster Ball takes place Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. at The Landing Zone for those 18 and older. Patrons can win prizes during a costume contest, dance and enjoy live entertainment by The Regulars Band.
"Monster Ball has become one of the scariest nights of the year at The Landing Zone. We have patrons really go all out for the annual costume contest. It's a great party for adults to unwind and just enjoy a fabulous evening of music and entertainment," said Janice Erdlitz, DFMWR marketing director.
The LZ staff also offers courtesy rides home to on-post patrons, she said. Event cover charge is $5.
