
Beautiful weather and a familiar face at the finish line are highlights of the 2010 Army Ten miler Sunday, Oct. 24, as Alene Reta won for the second year in a row with a finishing time this year of 47 minutes, 10 seconds.
The first finisher in the women's race was 25-year-old Aziza Abate of Ellicott City, Md., with a time of 55:54. (See related link for all race results)
The Army Ten Miler is the ArmyAca,!a,,cs premier running event and also one of AmericaAca,!a,,cs largest 10-mile road races. It has been an overwhelming success since its inception in Oct. 1985, starting with 1,379 runners and growing to this yearAca,!a,,cs 30,000 runners from all over the world and featuring a variety of experience levels, running a course that starts and finishes at the Pentagon, and passes such national landmarks as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol.
The Army Ten-Miler is produced by U.S. Army Military District of Washington and the proceeds from the race go to the Morale Welfare and Recreation fund that supports the enhancement of the lives of Soldiers, Civilians, Families, military retirees and other eligible participants.
The night before the race at a commercially sponsored all-you-can-eat pasta dinner, Maj. Gen. Karl Horst, commander of the Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District Washington, praised the hard work and generosity of the race sponsors and volunteers.
