FORT LEAVENWORTH, KS - This week marks the beginning of a Mission Rehearsal Exercise for the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning). The exercise, which continues through Oct. 1 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, is the first of three in support of Operation New Dawn, the post-Operation Iraqi Freedom military operation assisting Coalition efforts in Iraq.

Through the exercise, the Battle Command Training Program (BCTP) is preparing 25th Infantry Division commanders and staffs for their upcoming role in Iraq. BCTP is the U.S. Army's only worldwide deployable combat training center. BCTP's Operations Group D will be working to change the unit's emphasis from defensive and offensive operations to stability operations in accordance with the U.S. Army doctrine of Full Spectrum Operations. While all three types of operations have their own unique challenges, BCTP's role is to make sure each unit is as well-prepared for its mission as possible.

Operations Group D is providing Observer/Trainers (O/Ts) for this mission rehearsal exercise (MRX). These experienced staff officers more often than not have performed the same duties in a combat environment as the officers they are helping to train. BCTP Senior Mentors, retired general officers, also provide expertise during the exercise. U.S. Army Gen. (Retired) Dan K. McNeill will be participating in the exercise, as will U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. (Retired) Joseph E. Hurd, serving as the Air Senior Mentor.

Based at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., the U.S. Army's Battle Command Training Program (BCTP) provides training for commanders and staffs so they can fight and win in a wide spectrum of warfighting environments. The directorate provides experienced and knowledgeable trainers employing sophisticated simulations to maximize unit readiness. BCTP is part of the Combined Arms Center-Training (CAC-T), which delivers training programs, products and services to leaders and units in support of Army readiness. Wherever Army training occurs, the Combined Arms Center-Training helps make it happen. To learn more about BCTP and CAC-T, visit www.leavenworth.army.mil.
