FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Brig. Gen. Michele G. Compton, the new commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve's 9th Mission Support Command, met with more than 100 Anchorage Army Reservists during a town hall meeting here, Sept. 19, at the U.S. Army Reserve Center.
Compton assumed command in May and, while visiting her Soldiers in Alaska, hosted the town hall to personally meet with the Soldiers and express her gratitude for their service.
"I am incredibly proud of each one of you," said Compton. "Many of you have served in overseas contingency operations including Iraq and Afghanistan. You've represented the 9th Mission Support Command, the Army Reserve and the nation with honor and distinction."
In the town hall, Soldiers were able to ask the commanding general about anything on their mind. Questions ranged from topics such as training opportunities to Morale, Welfare and Recreation events.
9th MSC Command Sgt. Maj. Forrest Wacker was also available to answer any questions and offer advice for professional development and career progression.
"You need to take charge of your careers," said Wacker. "It's more than just staying physically fit; you need to take advantage of any missions and training opportunities the Army offers you. Stay ahead of your peers."
During the visit to Anchorage, Compton and Wacker toured Army Reserve facilities and met with unit leaders to discuss the overall quality of life and well being of their Soldiers.
Anchorage was the second stop in Alaska. Compton and Wacker previously visited their troops in Fairbanks.
The 9th Mission Support Command is a U.S. Army Reserve organization that spans across the Pacific to include Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Alaska, Japan and Korea. Though the headquarters of the 9th MSC is located in Honolulu, Alaska is home to numerous subordinate units to include a 1984th Hospital Detachment, the 411th Engineer Battalion's 297th Engineer
Company, the 3rd Mobilization Support Group, and a Theater Support Group Detachment.
Alaska's Army Reservists, or "warrior citizens", serve in various capacities to include engineers and medical service providers while in uniform, and also serve in various fields and positions within the community.
Approximately 85 percent of the 9th MSC's Soldiers have previously deployed, many more than once.
