Brushing your teeth seems simple enough, but are you and your Family brushing the correct way'

Dentists and hygienists say the most important part of tooth care happens at home. Brushing and flossing properly, along with regular dental checkups, can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

If you're like most people, you don't exactly look forward to facing a dentist's drill or hygienist's deep cleanings.

Wouldn't it be better to prevent cavities and gum disease before they begin'

To prevent cavities, you need to remove plaque, the transparent layer of bacteria that coats the teeth.

The best way to do this is by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day.

Brushing also stimulates the gums, which helps to keep them healthy and prevent gum disease.

Brushing and flossing are the most important things that you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Proper brushing takes at least two minutes - that's right, 120 seconds! Most adults do not come close to brushing that long.

Not only does brushing remove plaque and tartar, but it also helps to fend off tooth decay and gum disease.

To get the bacteria growing along your gum line gently slide the tips of a soft toothbrush at a 45- degree angle at the gums.

Replace your toothbrush every two to three months or when you notice the bristles starting to bend and look worn out.

Always replace your toothbrush after you recover from a cold or the flu. Brushing your teeth should include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, water and mouthwash.

This is how you keep your teeth and mouth clean from plaque and cavities. Remember, germs are everywhere in your mouth and gums.

Brushing your teeth is the number one action you can take to ensure a healthy, beautiful smile.
