CAMP DARBY, Italy- During the last week of summer vacation, 30 Camp Darby children were in school and loving every minute of it. At vacation bible school there were no tests or homework, just fun in the sun and creative activities based on an ancient Egyptian theme that keep everyone involved in the excitement.
"Being spiritually fit is an important part of Soldier, Family and Civilian readiness," said U.S. Army Capt. Paul Fritts, Camp Darby Chaplain. "Vacation Bible School is one small way in which Camp Darby\'s chapel program enhances spiritual fitness by getting everyone, from the kids and their parents to our chapel volunteers, involved in promoting the overall well-being of our community."
One vacation bible school volunteer, Kathryn Fritts, said she volunteered because she believes that it's an influential moment for children to embrace.
"VBS is a great way to get involved with other people, especially helping out the kids, the chapel can always use more volunteers with different programs and organized events and it's a great way to meet people and give the children some experiences that they will always remember," said Kathryn.
Meilan Bargas, one of the children participating in VBS, added that she had a lot of fun during vacation bible school.
"We made Egyptian necklaces, we had snacks, and we learned how to build pyramids, and we also learned that God is always with us and we all have special abilities," said Bargas.
Chaplain Fritts added that vacation bible school is one of the many ways the chapel enhances performance and builds resiliency of service members, civilians and families on Camp Darby.
