REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- If you build it, they will come.

Construction has begun near Gate 9 for the massive office complex called Redstone Gateway, which was originally known as the "Field of Dreams." A groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 25 marked this milestone for the development.

"This is going to be the face of Redstone Arsenal," Redstone commander Maj. Gen. Jim Myles said.

Maryland-based Corporate Office Properties Trust sponsored the invitation-only event, which featured speakers from federal, state, city and county delegations as well as from Redstone Arsenal.

Redstone Gateway will accommodate up to 15,000 jobs moving into the area in the coming years, and will offer approximately 4.4 million square feet of office space, including 1.2 million square feet of secure office space and an additional 124,000 square feet of convenience retail, restaurants, hotels and more. The first buildings are planned for completion in fourth quarter of 2011.
