PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - "This is a special event that recognizes the hard work, dedication and achievements of our fine Garrison work force," said Courtney Shingleton who served as narrator of the quarterly Garrison Awards Ceremony at the General Stilwell Community Center.
The event was hosted by Col. Darcy Brewer, garrison commander. Also officiating were Pamela von Ness, deputy to the garrison commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Olga Martinez, garrison command sergeant major.
Following an invocation by Presidio Chaplain Maj. Yo Sup Lee, von Ness introduced newly hired garrison employees:

Jean Louis Jr., and Samantha Sanders (Directorate of Emergency Services) were each recognized with a diploma and cash award for successfully completing training at the Department of the Army Civilian Police Academy at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
Jesus Crespo-Rodriguez (Directorate of Emergency Services) received a plaque from DES. He was selected from among his peers for the 2009 Department of the Army Security Guard of the Year, Presidio of Monterey.
Sandra Cobian and Nevada Lord (Directorate of Emergency Services) received DA Certificates of Achievement. They contributed to the development of a 160-hour Department of the Army Security Guard training program during the U.S. Army IMCOM Contract Security Guard-to-Department of the Army Security Guard conversion.
Wayne Lord and Sergeant Jimmy Webb (Directorate of Emergency Services) received DA Certificates of Achievement. They were recently recognized by the California Office of Traffic Safety, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and the Monterey "AVOID" campaign for their efforts to prevent DUIs.
Grace Barnes, Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, received a U.S. Army Garrison Commander's Coin. She helped improve the quality of care at the Monterey Road Child Development Center by implementing initial- and annual-employee training.
Rhonda Gibson, Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, received a DA Commendation Certificate. She help coordinate the annual Celebrating Military Children that allowed over 1,200 parents and children to participate in one of the best family events on Ord Military Community.
Whitney Bliss, Directorate of Human Resources, received a DA Commendation Certificate. Her can do attitude has lead to many success within the ASAP and was integral in the implementation of the Prevention Task Force.
Martin King, Directorate of Human Resources received a DA Commendation Certificate.
Charles Grinnell, Directorate of Human Resources received a DA Commendation Certificate.
Tania Leisten, Directorate of Public Works received a U.S. Army Garrison Certificate. Through her diligence POM was able to meet the new California Water Resources Control Board Storm Water General Construction Permit requirements.
Donald Gibeson, Directorate of Public Works received a DA Commendation Certificate. Through his positive and direct involvement he identified problematic areas with solid waste disposal and recycle contamination and was able to help save $9000 of Government Purchase Card funds.
Al Macks, Directorate of Public Affairs Office received a DA Commendation Certificate. Stepping in when the former Webmaster left and through his resourcefulness was invaluable in executing much needed updates to the Presidio of Monterey Website.
Josh Harchysen, K-Mar Industries Inc., is being recognized with a U.S. Army Garrison Certificate of Appreciation for his valuable assistances and support while completing a special project to convert over sixty EEO VHS training tapes into DVDs. With his help, the EEO office completed its reference library and is able to provide training materials to managers and employees.
Austin Lumbard, Directorate of Staff Judge Advocate received a U.S. Army Garrison Certificate of Appreciation for his contributions Office of the Staff Judge Advocate by assisting Service Members and their Families with resolving complex legal issues.
Timothy Clouse, Lynn Dittrich, Betty Fisher, Lorraine Hennessy, Nancy Humphreys, Beth Jensen, Kevin Moore, Michelle Sturtevant and Cliff Thornburg received a DA Commendation Certificate for their contributions to the Full Accreditation with Commendation of the ACS. Their assistance to the program helped facilitate excellent service to all Service Members and their Families in the Presidio of Monterey military community.
Jack Riso, Directorate of Emergency Service, Presidio of Monterey Fire Department received the USAG Certificate of Appreciation for their outstanding accomplishment during the IMCOM Fire and Emergency Service Operational Readiness Inspection.
