BAGHDAD -Professionals from the Ministry of Interior-Baghdad, Kurdistan MoI, and the Kurdistan Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs gathered together July 31 for an International Defense Acquisition Resource Management course.
The course is jointly taught by Iraqi instructors and U.S. Naval Postgraduate School instructors. Topics included: advanced contracting procedures and methodologies and best practices and current trends in transparency, fraud and ethics, supplier selection, bid document drafting, and procurement planning.
Maj. Gen. Jassim Jawad Ali, the director general in the contracts division, played an essential role in developing course curricula, by suggesting topics of particular interest including fraud and ethics, warranties and source selection.
"This level of training is advanced for us," said Brig. Gen. Khald Kakabra Azizz, KMoI director. "It is especially important for Kurdistan because it is a developing area. This training helps us manage local and international contracts and deal with corruption and unemployment in the region," he said.
The course's success has spurred three similar programs planned throughout the next fiscal year.
