CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE MAREZ, Iraq - The Task Force Marne Command Post-North, is transitioning to stability operations by moving personnel to supplement the redeployment of Soldiers in crucial positions. CP-North will redeploy numerous Soldiers early, including Sgt. Lani Melendez and Spc. Hector Ramos who are knowledgeable on the communication systems and technology utilized in the operations office. To combat this, the Ops Office will rely heavily on their experienced noncommissioned officers who will train Soldiers from other CP-North offices to ensure operations keep running smoothly.
"All individuals will be trained on multiple command and control platforms that are used in the section to assist the Task Force Marne Deputy Commanding General Support, Brig. Gen. Tom Vandal, in maintaining his situational awareness of the CP-North operating environment," said Sgt. 1st Class James Borchert, the noncommissioned officer in charge of operations. "These platforms include the command post of the future, Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and below, along with Blue Force Tracker, One Source Remote Video Terminal and the Internet Relay Client."
The biggest struggle for the Ops Office to overcome will be the loss of continuity and nine months of experience that Sgt. Melendez and Spc. Ramos posses, Sgt. 1st Class Borchert said.
"Both Sgt. Melendez and Spc. Ramos have served well above their pay grades during this deployment," he added. "Due to personnel shortages and operational tempo, they have both occasionally served in the capacity of the Ops NCOIC and did it with ease."
Sergeant Major Robert E. Townes, the CP-North sergeant major, said the operation office staff will be missed but is confident their mission will go unaltered.
"The military has always been accustomed to doing more with less," said Sgt. Maj. Townes. "We will continue being flexible, remain vigilant, stay focused and in a professional manner cover down on those areas of responsibility, as ordered, to support the mission."
Sergeant Major Townes also said he believes that a big part of a successful transition of staff in the Ops Office will be because of the leadership of Sgt. 1st Class Borchert. The post had a chance to say goodbye to Sgt. Melendez and Spc. Ramos at a farewell and awards dinner held at CP-North, Aug. 5.
