SAN ANTONIO, Texas (July 19, 2010) - A pair of military policemen based in Europe became U.S. Army Installation Management Command Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year at the National Capitol Region Best Warrior Competition, July 12-16 at Fort Belvoir, Va.
Spc. Luis Berber, of Headquarters and Headquarters Co., U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr, and Staff Sgt. Christopher M. McDougall, of the 230th Military Police Co. USAG Stuttgart, representing IMCOM-Europe, outscored their peers to earn the title of IMCOM's top warriors.
McDougall won his event outright, placing first among 14 competitors from six Army commands vying for the right to move on to the Army Best Warrior event, scheduled for October at Fort Lee, Va. Top Soldier honors went to Spc. Eric Bugarian of the U.S. Army Corrections Command.
The National Capitol Region Best Warrior competition is the qualifying event for members of IMCOM, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, U.S. Army Corrections Command, U.S. Army North and The Old Guard.
"The IMCOM NCO and Soldier of the year are one example of the professional capacity of the command," said IMCOM Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Ciotola. "To have been selected as such, the NCO and Soldier must have exhibited superlative ability in marksmanship, fitness, tactical operations and cognitive ability. Their success is a reflection of not only their commitment, self-discipline, tenacity and inherent abilities, it is an example of the command that sponsored them as well."
Five IMCOM regions sent the winners of their own top warrior competitions to Fort Belvoir.
"To be selected as a subordinate command's, or ultimately the IMCOM NCO or Soldier of the year, is a tribute to the individual and the entire command concerned," Ciotola said. "Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch [commanding general of IMCOM] and I are infinitely proud of all those that competed, the commands that supported them, and the communities they represent."
