Sgt. Maj. McClure retires from RRAD

RED RIVER ARMY DEPOT, TX -- Amid family and friends, Sgt. Major Willie G. McClure, Jr. completed his 29 years military service with a formal retirement ceremony, June 3, here.

Red River Army Depot Commander, Col. Daniel Mitchell presided over the retirement ceremony honoring McClure.

Special attendees included his mother Ms Annie McClure; sister, Ms Peggy McClure; daughters, Camille and Regina; his son, Willie G. McClure III and three of his grandchildren, Emily, Alexander and Xavier. In addition, AMC Chaplain Col. Kenneth Sampson and Sgt. Maj. Sarah Tillman from the AMC Chaplain's office. Numerous depot members also attended.

For his years of dedication and outstanding service, McClure was awarded the Legion of Merit Certificate of Retirement and Presidential Certificate of Appreciate.

Col. Mitchell presented McClure's son a Certificate of Appreciation from AMC Commander, Maj. Gen. Kurt Stein.

His assignments included tours in Germany, South Carolina, Louisiana, Southwest Asia, Afghanistan and several in Texas. He deployed in support of Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Global War on Terrorism.

In August 2007, McClure began his final tour of duty with his assignment to RRAD.

"My responsibilities here at Red River have been the people," said McClure during his remarks at the ceremony. "I was here to take care of what the workers needed."

He thanked his family and friends for supporting him throughout the years and giving him the opportunity to serve. That evening, McClure was guest of honor at a dinner held at Elliott Lake. Well wishers presented gifts and enjoyed a delicious dinner provided by MWR.
