HEIDELBERG, Germany - The Installation Management Command-Europe Youth Leadership Forum was conducted in Karlsruhe, Germany, June 21-25.
Fifteen garrisons were represented by 37 youth teen panel members and 15 adult advisors, according to Joe Marton, IMCOM-Europe Child, Youth, School Services program specialist.
The YLF is a program where two youth leaders and one staff member are invited from each garrison to attend a five-day youth leadership seminar. During the seminar, the participants discuss issues that impact youth in Europe.
"This program enables are younger leaders to share ideas, practice leadership and make a positive difference for other youth in Europe," said Marton.
Youth attendees arrived at a consensus and constructed the IMCOM-Europe Top Five issues impacting youth: Transportation, School Transition Support, Recreation and Leisure, AAFES Selection, and Athletic Fields. Issues will be communicated to Family and MWR Command leadership via the Army Teen Panel (ATP) later this year.
With support of AFN, a Public Service Announcement (PSA) addressing under-aged drinking and peer pressure was produced by the youth.
The University of Maryland, 4H Extension Office supported the event with two youth advisors and one adult advisor to facilitate a service learning project "Health Rocks. Youth were also trained by youth advisors in an environmental and economics awareness program "EcoEffect" written by Neale Godfrey.
