PUEBLO RESERVOIR, Colo.---Mountain Post members participated in the 5th Annual Take a Kid Fishing day June 19 at the Pueblo Reservoir.

The program started when two men had an idea to give back to the children on Fort Carson who have deployed parents. Dave Kooser and Frank Weston organized local fishermen and had them donate their time and boats to make a day of fishing possible for these Families. This year Sam Heckman took over for Kooser and Weston in putting the event together.

Balfour Beatty Communities, the Fort Carson military Family housing countractor, has supported and assisted with this event for five years. BBC provides breakfast, transportation and lunch to all the children. The fishermen provide the boats and fishing equipment for the children to take home.

Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. James Kilpatrick attended the event and handed out trophies.

"These kinds of activities are so important to the Fort Carson community

because they give Families the opportunity to get out and do things and take

their minds off the many stresses they have," said Kilpatrick. "Our Families' sacrifices during these conflicts are unmatched and it is awesome to see the community giving

back to them. I know this is a memory these kids won't soon forget. This is

just another example of the wonderful relationship we have with our local

community here and the great things they do for our Soldiers."
