The Northern Virginia Technology Council honored the Army Contracting Command for 'Best use of LinkedIn' at its recent award program.
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking Internet site with more than 67 million registered users worldwide.
The command is using LinkedIn to raise awareness of, and increase the number of job applicants through its www.ArmyHire.com recruitment website.
The command's strategy was to target and join discussion groups on the site based on profession, geography, or subject. These groups are regularly monitored and job vacancy announcements and/or job fair announcements are posted with a link to visit www.ArmyHire.com.
Before the campaign started, the command "reached" about 240 people, mostly those already within the organization. Since implementing this strategy in November 2009, the command reaches more than 700,000 potential candidates and is on target to reach one million by November 2010.
