ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- "He's an exceptionally bright individual, only he doesn't quite get this Minnesota football thing," said Brig. Gen. Larry Wyche, commander, Joint Munitions Command, jokingly of newly promoted Capt. Clarence Price.
Price joined JMC as Aide-de-Camp to Wyche on April 19.
On June 1, 1st Lt. Price officially became Capt. Price.
Of such a responsibility, Wyche said, "life just changes for you-this young man has adjusted magnificently."
Price, a Birmingham native, was busy with the immediate responsibilities of his new position and almost let the opportunity for a formal promotion ceremony pass.
His boss, however, made sure he didn't.
"He (Price) had reached the conclusion things were moving too fast, he didn't need a promotion ceremony," said Wyche.
But the commander had a different idea.
So on June 11 a host of JMC employees joined Wyche and Col. Mark Klingelhoefer, chief of staff, JMC, to watch the formal promotion of Price who began his Army career 8 years ago as a mechanic.
Price initially joined the Army after graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Ala., and hasn't looked back.
"I'm humbled by this promotion. I take no credit for myself.
I'm here only because of God, the support of my family, friends and the awesome Soldiers that put everything on the line for this nation on a daily basis," he said.
Following Price's pinning by his wife Jeanette, he began his 'thank yous' with one line: "I'd like to thank God".
He expressed thanks to the entire executive staff and acknowledged how privileged he is to work at JMC.
His overall impression of the command: "I was just truly blown away at the professionalism at JMC."
