NATICK, Mass. -- The U.S. Army Garrison-Natick has two major construction projects in the near future. The garrison received funding to replace the roof on Building 5 and repair the roof on Building 1.
The replacement of the roof on Building 5 is estimated at $1.7 million and the repair of the roof is estimated at $138 thousand.
The current roof on Building 5 experiences many leaks and is sagging in some spots. The current roof is nearly 20 years old and if it would fail, millions of dollars in equipment, prototypes and machinery could be destroyed.
The Building 1 roof already has experienced some water damage. The repair will impact the entry of Building 1 and Hunter Auditorium. "We are excited about receiving this funding," said Lt. Col. Kari Otto, the USAG-Natick Commander. "It is our mission to provide the best possible working environment for the workforce at the Natick Soldier Systems Center. The work that is done here impacts our warfighters and we want our work force to be able to concentrate on developing products for Soldiers instead of if their roof is leaking."
Both construction projects are expected to begin in the late fall of 2010.
