COB ADDER, Iraq - The commander of the Iraqi Air Force's 70th Squadron met with the commander of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade and Task Force 12 at Contingency Operating Base Adder to plan the next steps for joint training under the United States Forces - Iraq partnership initiative.
Col. Nazih al-Fahaed and Col. Robert Doerer, along with Capt. Alex Tesar, TF 12 training and plans section, discussed the importance of their partnership and how critical it was for their training to be continued by the Iraqis.
Nazih, who took command of the 70th Squadron in January, said he believes in the importance of educating the Iraqi ground forces in the use of Iraqi air assets.
He also said that he wants this to be done by Iraqis instead of foreigners due to the differences in how they operate. After concessions and agreements on both sides, they decided on the next steps.
The plan is to train Iraqi personnel who will in turn train their own soldiers within the 10th Iraqi Army to increase coordinated operations between the various Iraqi Security Forces elements, such as the Iraqi Police, Department of Border Enforcement, Air Force and Army.
In addition, Nassi expressed his desire to expand the audience for future training to other IA brigades in United States Division-South.
The meeting showed how the willing give-and-take nature of the relationship between the U.S. and Iraqi militaries has helped the Iraqi military to grow and increase its capabilities.
